Jessica Pleasants Manages Projects Expertly, Within Budget
Architect Okan Oncel’s innovative designs, which bring each client’s vision to life, are just one key to a successful project, whether it’s a country home, commercial space or New York City apartment.
POP’s extensive experience with project and construction management ensures projects proceed smoothly, efficiently, and within budget.
The expertise of Project Director Jessica Pleasants is critical to successfully shepherding each transformation, especially co-ops with complex circumstances.
“There are a lot of details with these old buildings and Jessica was great,” said client Liz Martin, whose duplex apartment on Fifth Avenue was transformed. The design and specifications were tailored to a specific construction budget as part of Jessica’s role in serving as liaison between the owners, design team, construction team, and building management.
“There were some real complications we had to work out, which were difficult because of the infrastructure of the building,” Jessica said, “but we know what it takes to get these projects done, even in complex circumstances of prewar, landmarked New York City co-ops.”
“I first met Jessica when she was the Project Manager at Godwin Residential Construction,” said Mark Drendel. “We did a gut renovation of my apartment on Central Park West. Jessica kept us on track, working closely with my design team and building management, and managing the trades and construction cost. She did an excellent job.”
“When I needed to renovate my store, Canine Styles on Lexington Avenue,” continued Mark, “I once again worked with Jessica to manage the process. Okan did the architecture and got us through Landmarks and the DOB. I knew I didn’t have to worry about a thing.”
“A lot of planning goes into these projects,” Jessica stated. “Creative design is essential, but forecasting the design sequence is also super important.”
POP’s process starts with a discovery period, which includes both an exploration of aesthetic and programmatic goals but also any limitations imposed by building regulations, budget and timeline. “We like to have a thorough understanding of the scope so we can anticipate when we need to engage with collaborators in order to deliver a project on time.” Jessica detailed the relationship between architects and contractors in her discussion with Lisa Fitzig.
Inspired design attuned to clients’ lifestyle wellness may be the hallmark of POP Architecture, but it’s only part of the equation. Technical proficiency, reflecting a deep understanding of professional roles and relationships, is what gets projects completed beautifully, on time, and within budget.
